An historic site of national importance, the Bet Eshel Observatory was built in 1943 as part of an‘outposts plan’, along with Kibbutz Revivim and Kibbutz Gvulot. It functioned as an agricultural
settlement and farm until the outbreak of the War of Independence, during which it withstood heavy bombing by the Egyptian army.
The site has been restored and renovated by the Jewish National Fund and has been declared a national monument.
